Philippines Is Back On World Hoop Scene

After their come-from -behind victory of Smart Gilas Pilipinas over the US selected team in the recently concluded William Jones Cup, Rain or shine coach Yeng Guiao made a statement regarding that kind of success done by the troops of Chot Reyes.

“It’s good for the PBA and good for Philippine basketball,” said Guiao in a telephone interview of a local channel.

That word of Guiao make something significant. Why?? This shows that there is few personalities that winning in a prestigious tournament such as Jones Cup will relive its desire to be on the list of superpowers of the basketball planet.

After its 4th place finish in the 2011 FIBA Asia, the Manny V.Pangilinan-sponsored national team is totally back on the scratch. They look for the possible members of the team. And the re-assumption of Chot Reyes as headcoach created the tons of doubts in terms of his capability to bring the team in the world hoop scene.

Now, that the Gilas containing some PBA players named LA Tenorio, naturalized center Marcus Douthit, Larry Fonacier, Sol Mercado, Gabe Norwood, Jeff Chan and others winning their first Jones Cup title since 1998, this is a strong indication that the Philippines are ready to aspire once more to be in the top of the Everest hoop superpowers.
